Washington University in St. Louis is led by Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, the university’s 14th chancellor. Chancellor Wrighton is seen frequently outside of his office as he participates in campus activities, athletic games, student research fairs and outreach events. Wrighton is also a Professor of Chemistry.

As the university’s chief executive officer, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton leads approximately 13,000 faculty and staff, 13,000 students and oversees the university's total operating budget of $1.8 billion.
Led by Chair Craig D. Schnuck and composed of 50 leaders from various professions, Board members work in committees and serve as the chief governing body of the university.
The Provost works to continually improve the university community by establishing university-wide initiatives for curriculum, diversity and global outreach. As chief academic officer of the university, the Provost oversees teaching, learning, scholarship and research across the university.
The university’s senior leadership advises the chancellor and is composed of divisional academic deans; and leaders from alumni & development, general counsel, administration, and research.
