Our vision is to drive the standard of excellence in higher education emergency management.

Updates on all emergencies will appear here. Please return to this site for the most current information.

WashU Emergency Management (EM) ensures that the university is well-prepared for different types of incidents by conducting training, demonstrations, and exercises. We work closely with other departments by overseeing WashU’s Crisis Management Team (CMT). In the event of an incident, the CMT coordinates critical functions and services to provide a unified response, considering input from stakeholders on campus and in the community. CMT members come from all operational departments, including the Office of Public Affairs, WUPD, Protective Services, and the International Travel Oversight Committee.

Our department also maintains the WashUAlerts system. When an event such as a tornado or fire occurs, our infrastructure allows us to reach the entire campus quickly through multiple channels.

PLANS – EVENT PLANNING
An emergency preparedness plan is required for BOTH indoor and outdoor events. Outdoor events that expect at least 1,000 attendees use the outdoor event emergency planning form. For indoor events that expect 500 or more attendees, use the indoor event emergency planning form to complete a plan.
TRAINING
The focus of the Emergency Management Training Program is to provide appropriate and relevant training courses to personnel that may have roles and responsibilities in a disaster event. Additionally, Emergency Management aims to educate the campus community on how to respond to an emergency situation. https://emergency.wustl.edu/tools-resources/training/
