Kelly Field

Kelly Field at Irv Utz Stadium is where the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team practices and plays its home games.

Located on the north part of the South 40, students can often hear music coming from the field on game days and see practices as they walk by.

The field was dedicated in memory of Leo Kelly, the head baseball coach for Washington University from 1969 to 1981. Typically referred to as “Coach,” he was a man who lived for baseball. He enjoyed reading books, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and coaching the team.

“Coach was the type you started out hating and ended up loving.”
-Andy Woods, a Washington University class of 1980 graduate and baseball player
