- America’s Energy Future: Technology and Transformation — Report in Brief (pdf)
America has the potential to meet its energy needs while preserving the environment and assuring energy security. Doing so requires a substantial immediate investment in the development and deployment of emerging energy technologies and energy resources.
These observations come from a recent report, “America’s Energy Future: Technology and Transformation,” from the America’s Energy Future (AEF) Project of the National Research Council (NRC). The AEF Project evaluated current contributions and the likely future impacts, including estimated costs, of existing and new energy technologies.
Mark S. Wrighton, chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis and vice chair of the NRC committee on America’s Energy Future, will open the symposium with a presentation on the report.
Speaking about the report and potential responses to it will be leaders from the private and public sectors, including:
- Richard A. Meserve, AEF committee member, president of the Carnegie Institution, and former chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission;
- Maxine L. Savitz, AEF committee member, vice president of the National Academy of Engineering, and member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology;
- Charles K. Ebinger, director of the Energy Security Initiative, senior fellow of the Brookings Institution, and former energy policy advisor to more than 50 governments;
- Martha Schlicher, vice president, biofuels, Monsanto;
- Steven F. Leer, president and CEO, Arch Coal;
- Fred Palmer, senior vice president of government relations, Peabody Energy;
- Dan Cole, senior vice president, Ameren Corporation.
