Students in all schools can broaden their global viewpoint by taking part in summer study abroad or stateside opportunities such as the WUSTL Washington, D.C., Programs.
Overseas Programs Summer Programs offers a variety of study abroad programs worldwide, through which students may experience other cultures, improve foreign language skills, and study specialized subjects. The study abroad experience is designed to complement a student’s academic field of study, enhance their career direction and is often considered "life-changing."
The Gephardt Institute and Overseas Programs partner to provide the International Service-Learning Program in Chile Program. Student take a one-credit spring preparation course, then travel in the summer to Santiago for Spanish language study, a homestay, and an eight-week service internship at several community organizations. Students return from the trip and create a service project in St. Louis-related to what they learned while abroad.
The Brown School has partnered with the School of Social Development and Public Policy of Fudan University to conduct an intensive summer training program for junior faculty, graduates of universities of social work, senior administrators from government departments, and NGO leaders in China.
The Sam Fox School currently runs summer programs abroad and in Washington, D.C. Through these programs, our students learn to adapt culturally and professionally, develop sensitivity to place-based practices, and are equipped to practice in most countries of the world. The Sam Fox School also sponsors several international programs that give students in both art and architecture the opportunity to spend the summer studying in Europe.
School of Engineering & Applied Science study abroad summer programs are available through the College of Arts & Sciences Overseas Programs, but there are also opportunities available only to engineering students. Students can travel to further study engineering or pursue other cultural experiences to enhance academics through a second major or a minor.
The School of Law offers a variety of study-abroad options during the summer for students, designed to prepare them for practice in an international and transnational legal market. Each of our partner schools has been selected on the basis of its strong international academic and professional reputation, its commitment to high quality study-abroad experience, and its location.
Olin Business School offers undergraduates summer study abroad opportunities in a variety of countries. Some programs provide mainly academic study, while the International Internship Programs incorporate full-time internships.
Summers in Washington, D.C. are an opportunity for students to gain real world job experience by interning in Washington, D.C. In the WUSTL in D.C. program, students can earn 3-6 credits for an academic course and a full-time internship of the student’s choosing. In addition, students live in the heart of D.C. near Dupont Circle and participate in a variety of seminars, alumni events and extracurricular activities.
