Sam Fox Arts Center

The Sam Fox Arts Center brings together the School of Art, the School of Architecture, and the Department of Art History and Archaeology.

Included in the academic center are Bixby Hall, Givens Hall, Kemper Art Museum, Steinberg Hall and Walker Hall.


Sam Fox

Sam Fox, chairman, chief executive officer and founder of Harbour Group, Ltd., is a leader in St. Louis business, philanthropic and civic affairs and a steadfast friend of Washington University in St. Louis.

Born and raised in Desloge, Missouri, Fox moved to St. Louis in 1947 to attend Washington University in St. Louis, where he was a member of the Dean’s Honor Roll and Beta Gamma Sigma, a national honor society in business administration. In 1951, after graduating with a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration, Fox joined a brother in Fox Industries, Inc., which made powders for the chemical industry and also ran an industrial park and warehousing complex. In 1976, Fox founded Harbour Group, Ltd., a privately owned operating company that specializes in the acquisition and development of manufacturing companies for long-term investment.

Fox and his wife, Marilyn, have supported a wide range of campus programs and initiatives over the years, including the School of Art and the John M. Olin School of Business, the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences, the School of Medicine’s Kidney Center, Edison Theatre, the Danforth Scholars Program, and scholarships in business and art. The Foxes are life Danforth Circle Members of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society.
